Bose makes SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker official

updated 09:10 pm EDT, Thu September 15, 2011

Bose SoundLink takes Bluetooth speakers upscale

True to its teases last week, Bose unveiled its take on a wireless audio system. The SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker is a bigger much more powerful alternative to a Bluetooth speaker like the Jawbone Jambox but with its own design touches. A nylon or leather cover grafted into the design both protects the front when on the road and folds back to serve as a stand.

At three pounds and two inches thick, the SoundLink is less portable than the Jambox and meant for backpacks or messenger bags. Bose still claims eight hours of completely wireless use on a lithium-ion battery that it notes can be replaced.

The speaker will work with any Android, BlackBerry, iOS, or other device that can send audio out through Bluetooth's standard A2DP protocol. Bose is orchestrating a hard launch and should have the SoundLink in stores now for $300 in the simpler nylon version and an LX version with both leather and chrome trim. Different colors of nylon and leather cases are available for $30 and $50 each.
