Sprint brings LG Optimus Black to US as Marquee on October 2

LG Marquee hits budget smartphone range

Sprint quickly acted on rumors Wednesday and launched the LG Marquee. Its version of the Optimus Black is being pitched as an Android fashion phone through its slim profile and MADE-crafted carrying cases. The new version has perks over earlier versions, however: it ships with Android 2.3 where others stopped at 2.2.

The smartphone still revolves around its four-inch Nova display, which remains one of the brightest mobile LCDs. A single-core 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM give it strictly middling performance, but it has a five-megapixel back camera and a two-megapixel front camera. Most storage comes from the microSDHC slot, which gets a 2GB card from the start and can take up to 32GB.

Sprint's edition necessarily switches to CDMA and EVDO-based 3G. Customizations are light but bring in Sprint ID.

The design ships October 2 for $100 after signing a contract and getting a rebate. Pre-orders start early on September 20, however, and will get the phone to buyers September 29 if they order ahead of time.
