Turntable.fm now an iPhone app, gets funding

Online music service for DJs, Turntable.fm, has just showed up in the form of an iPhone app (free, App Store). The company behind it has also received $7 million in funding led by Union Square Ventures. Turntable started off with three employees and is now at 10.

The service currently sees 600,000 users and streams over one million songs every day. As part of the agreement, Union Square Ventures' Fred Wilson will join Turntable's board of directors.

Part of the $7 million in funding came from First Round Capital, Polaris Venture Partners, and Lowercase Ventures. Smaller contributors include Lady Gaga's manager Troy Carter, Madonna's manager Guy Oseary, former president of MySpace Music Courtney Holt, former Facebook director of monetization Tim Kendall, late night host Jimmy Fallon and the Roots.

The iPhone app lets users send music to compatible devices using Apple's AirPlay. Users will not have the option of DJing in a room alone, however. Those who register on Facebook can also access the service rather than just friends of current users. [via GigaOM]
