GameStop confirms iPad, iPhone, iPod trade-ins

GameStop to sell used iOS gear, mum on new models

GameStop confirmed some rumors Monday and started up trade-ins for iOS devices. Nicknamed iTrades, the promo lets US visitors trade in virtually any generation of iPad, iPhone, and iPod for either cash or store credit. Devices only need to be free of personal engravings and significant damage.

The game retailer hasn't said what its typical trade-in prices are, although it's likely to be significantly below whatever GameStop will price the devices at itself.

No mention has been made as to whether GameStop will offer new devices along with used versions. It may start out with used equipment since it doesn't need to get official Apple approval. Sales of mobile hardware at GameStop focus on Android tablets so far.

In its current move, the company sees the trade-ins as a way to get much more game credit than a traditional game exchange. Unofficially, it's believed to be weaning itself off of its dependence on physical games as downloads take over. An early cloud gaming service and eventual plans for tablet and phone support could lead GameStop to want devices in its stores that can use the service from the start.

Now that the iPhone 4S has a better antenna, I’m kissing my iPhone 4’s death grip goodbye. I checked out the offers for an iPhone 4 32G Verizon in mint condition and here’s what I got: $268 (Cash for iPhones), $204 (Gazelle) and $250 (Totem). Will definitely sell mine to the actual top bidder. So excited to see how Siri will blow my mind!
