KT Spider handset paired with notebook, tablet, gaming docks

updated 08:10 pm EDT, Wed September 7, 2011

Handset itself offers high-end feature set

Korean carrier KT has unveiled a smartphone concept that pairs a handset with a wide range of dock accessories. The system centers around the Spider, an 0.37-inch-thick Android handset that offers a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a 4.5-inch display with 1280x800 display, along with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of integrated storage.

The standalone phone can then be docked with a PSP-like accessory that provides two sets of buttons on each side. Users can also dock the handset in a 10.1-inch tablet, which converts the Gingerbread UI for the larger display.

If an even larger display is needed, users can plug the phone into a notebook dock that appears to work in a similar way to Motorola's Atrix dock. Unlike the Atrix, however, the Spider links directly into the front of the notebook where a trackpad would be fitted in a typical computer.

KT has yet to announce pricing or launch information, though the Spider system may not be released outside of Korea. [via Pocketables and AndroidPIT]

1.5GHz dual CPU? 1280x800 resolution? Why dont you just give us a gamer PC and call it a phone. Are these specs really needed on a cell phone? I'm guessing the processor is so it can load up some nice ads with Adobe Ad Player but is a 4" screen really going to need 1280x800?
