NI puts out Maschine Mikro controller, iMaschine iPhone app

updated 02:10 pm EDT, Mon September 5, 2011

Native Instruments Maschine Mikro targets entry DJ

Native Instruments picked Monday to roll out both a small, lower-cost option for its digital DJ hardware and an iOS app to complement the set. The Maschine Mikro is about two thirds the size of its larger sibling and has a single display and a master controller that can be reassigned on the spot. It still preserves the 16 drum pads and gets access to the full suite of feature tie-ins with the Maschine desktop app.

A version 1.7 update to Maschine lets both the Mikro and its full-size predecessor tap into NI's Komplete 8 and Komplete 8 Ultimate sample bundles.

Accompanying the new system will be iMaschine, a creative app for the iPhone and iPod touch. DJs and producers can create up to a four-track mix with samples and onboard effects taken from the regular Maschine pool. The final results can be folded into the desktop app to be part of a larger mix.

Both the Mikro and the iMaschine app will be available in October. NI hasn't given out pricing for the iOS title but will put the Mikro at $399.
