Abundance of iPhone 5 cases supports larger design

updated 11:25 am EDT, Fri September 2, 2011

iPhone 5 cases appear in force with new shape

Those believing the iPhone 5 will have a major redesign were supported on Friday with two simultaneous discoveries of a glut of new cases. All of them show a design somewhat like the iPod touch but with the requisite camera, microphone, and speaker connectors. The Macitynet.it sighting compared it against both the iPhone 4 and fourth-generation iPod touch and found it larger than both, strongly supporting beliefs that it has a larger screen.

A plethora of cases from multiple Chinese manufacturers shown at MIC Gadget bear this out annd suggest that they all got access to leaked blueprints rather than some of the more speculative designs seen a few months ago.

The more recent cases, if shaped around the real design, point to Apple finally taking on a wave of increasingly larger Android phones. It's now common for even mid-tier phones like the Droid Incredible 2 to have four-inch screens, which are rumored for Apple's model, and phones like the Galaxy S II regularly use 4.3-inch or even 4.5-inch screens. Apple might not increase the resolution but would still have one of the sharpest screens in the size class.

Most expect the performance to be at least as competitive as the Galaxy S II, bringing in a dual-core processor and an eight-megapixel camera.

Could be the iPod touch 3G

There are also rumors that Apple could add 3G to the iPod touch. With a pay-as-you-go plan like the one for the iPad 3G. Just sayin'.

    Just Guessing...

These designs are at best, guesses by the maker & not based on anything that Apple is planing. This is because Apple does not provide accessory makers with any advanced prototypes. Accessory makers, like Apple’s own Apple Store staff, receive Apple’s new design specs the day that Apple announces the new product. I forsee a tidal wave of revised prototypes the day that Apple actually announces their next version of the iPhone

    Cheers !

    Wow...

Wow, if that's the case i'm so not interested in getting a new iPhone after my 4. I don't want it to be any bigger. What a shame.
