Sony unveils world's first 3D compatible personal display

Sony brings 3D HD OLED headset to market

Sony has unveiled the world's first 3D compatible head mounted display, the HMZ-T1. The device, first shown at CES in January as a prototype, is equipped with two 1280x720 pixel OLED panels each measuring just 0.7-inch diagonally. When worn, the two panels combine to give the user an experience the equivalent of watching a movie theater-like 750-inch screen.

A 3D image is created using the 'dual panel 3D method,' which delivers a separate image to each eye. The advantage of delivering a 3D image in this way is that cross-talk is eliminated, which should help to make viewing on the device a relatively comfortable experience, minimizing eye fatigue.

The 3D imagery is accompanied by Sony's virtual surround sound technology built-in to the headset. The effect simulates listening to a movie in 5.1 surround sound.

The HMZ-T1 head mounted 3D personal display is scheduled to be released in Japan this November for the equivalent of $783. [via Impress]

    Nice hardware specs but...

Do you have to look like a Borg to access personal 3D?
