HP TouchPad update brings document editing in Quickoffice

updated 06:45 pm EDT, Mon August 29, 2011

Update brings new formatting options

HP has announced that it has finally brought document editing to the TouchPad via a software update for Quickoffice. The latest version now enables users to create and edit Word and Excel documents, while also bringing performance and multitasking improvements. New capabilities include formatting options for font type, color, size, underlining and italics in Word, along with formatting cells and using functions in Excel.

Although the device launched with Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite, capable of editing PowerPoint presentations, users were limited to viewing Excel and Word documents. HP was said to have shipped the device without the promised editing capabilities to help keep the project on schedule after a long delay following the initial unveiling.

Quickoffice HD for the TouchPad is now available as a free download.

    Scorched Earth Policy

HP is exitting this market and are doing as much damage as they can on the way out. By essentially giving away their tablets and releasing these apps for free they must know that they are causing damage to other developers and device manufacturers.

Goog for consumers in the short term but bad for the creators.
