ClickInstall install builder reaches 3.0, adds patch-ability

Can now create desktop alias to installed app

Excel Software has updated their software installer building program, ClickInstall, to version 3.0, bringing with it the option to create a desktop alias when an app is installed, generate an installer patch, build a number of installers simultaneously, apply a custom icon to the installer or add the ability to apply a password or serial number activation to the install process. The program can now also split up a large setup file into multiple files or CD/DVDs, with prompts to insert the next disc.

The program itself is used by developers to create installers for their own programs, and the software makes it easy to create compressed, self-extracting and even password-protected installers. Excel offers a Safe Activation service or developers can opt for the company's WebActivation product that lets developer host their own serial number activation server.

The ability to create an installation patch rather than a full installer saves downloading time and makes it easier for users who have slow internet connections to stay up-to-date. The software can also create software installers streamlined for a PPC processor, Intel processor or Universal Binaries. The software generates royalty-free installers that can be customized with logos, icons and background images, including web links to a company or product page, copyright notices, license agreements, help files or release notes.

ClickInstall sells for a one-time fee of $395, which includes both printed and PDF documentation and a web video demonstration of the software. The software itself requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later with a minimum 256MB of RAM.
