Adds new cameras, grass presets, more
Less than a month after the last major update, Avis Nocturna has released version 4.5 of its 3D landscape modelling program TerraRay. The new version sports new camera types, including a birds-eye view. The water renderer has been improved, and the company has added more material generators and 3D preset models, including a new grass preset. To celebrate the new release, the software -- which is sold exclusively through the Mac App Store -- is on sale for a limited time.
The program is positioned as an inexpensive, easy-to-use landscape generator based on simple elevation maps, featuring realistic lighting and flexible, natural materials. It now offers better control over camera height and position, a better editor preview of imported models, and a number of user-interface improvements.
Elevation maps can now be saved and re-imported as images, the program also features configurable volumetric cloud, fog and sky patterns. The new camera types (angular, orthogonal, architect and bird) will allow users to view and demonstrate their 3D work more easily.
For the next two weeks, the program will again be on sale for one-third its normal price. Normally $15, TerraRay 4.5 is now available for $5 from the Mac App Store. It requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later, with Lion fully supported. Two GB or more of RAM is recommended.
