Acer Aspire 3951 MacBook Air clone seen live

The Acer Aspire 3951 ultrabook has been spotted live and given the hands-on treatment. The production model looks unchanged from the promotional shots that have previously leaked. On of the first notebooks on the market that has been built according to Intel's ultrabook design specifications, the MacBook Air clone is designed to go head-to-head with Apple's MacBook Air range as an ultra thin Windows alternative.

The live photos reveal a design that is very similar to the MacBook Air with its rounded off, wedge-like shape, aluminum construction, chiclet keyboard, and singular buttonless trackpad. Also very similar is its silver and black colour scheme. The only notable differences about the external design is that most of the ports are shifted to the rear (whereas these are found on the sides of the MacBook Air range), a keyboard that is grey in color and the omission of an Apple logo on the lid.

The 13-inch Acer Aspire 3951 ultrabook is powered by a Core i7 with hard drive options up to a 128GB SSD. Its full specifications and build options have not yet been made available, although it is thought likely that traditional spinning hard drives will also be a part of the mix when it launches as expected in September. It should be no thicker than 0.51-inches and 3.09 pounds as these are the minimum guidelines stipulated by Intel for it to qualify as an ultrabook-class notebook.

Battery life is expected to last around 6 hours, and it is also expected to be able to match the MacBook Air with a stand-by time of around 30 days, although this may only be for SSD equipped models. Like the Air, which has been designed to emulate the instant-on capability of the iPad, the Acer Aspire 3951 is expected to transition from sleep to wake in 1.7 seconds. Dude

Did they put all their effort into the design and forget about the marketing? They couldn't come up with a name other than their existing f****** aspire line?
