Leak has DirecTV TiVo at last shipping in September

Leak tips DirecTV TiVo hybrid finally inbound

A leak has exposed what appears to be a training video pitched at the DirecTV sales force in order to get staff re-familiarized with the TiVo box and its functions. This and other details have emerged pointing to a September shipping date for the long delayed set-top-box DirecTV TiVo that promises to bring the best of satellite TV programming and combining it with a subscription service DVR. The only apparent downside for users is that the device will use older hardware, a legacy of its long gestation period, which started back in 2009.

According to the Zats Not Funny, the device will not feature that latest UI and hardware features found in the popular TiVo Premier Q. Instead, users will have to make do with both slightly older hardware and an older interface. Further, the device won't be capable of multi-room viewing between either other DirecTV TiVo units or DirecTV HD DVRs. It will, however, get the updated TiVo peanut-shaped remote control.

Whether the device is a stop-gap is unknown. In addition to the rumored launch date of September 25, there are murmurs of additional hardware also under development.
