Chrome dev channel adds Lion gestures, Omnibox sync

updated 02:00 pm EDT, Thu August 25, 2011

Fullscreen mode returns in native Lion form

The latest developer build of Chrome implements several important features for Macs, accounts say. Among these is the use of Lion-style multitouch gestures, meaning that people can now swipe left or right to go back and forth through page history. Unlike Safari though, Chrome has yet to add pinch or double-tap zoom commands.

Another Lion-specific addition is the return of fullscreen mode in a format native to the OS, toggled by a button in the upper-right corner. Applicable to all platforms however is the introduction of Omnibox history sync, allowing a person to get the same results when typing in the box on another computer. The option can be toggled on or off through Chrome's Customize Sync Preferences pane.

A more minor adjustment is designed to prevent quitting accidentally. In order to close the browser, a person must hold down Command Q for a moment rather than just tap.

Chrome Canary is an experimental edition of Chrome which includes the absolute latest changes made by Google. There is no word on when the most recent additions will find their way into beta or stable releases.
