Cirago unveils USB2-to-HDMI adapter for Mac, Windows

updated 12:15 am EDT, Tue August 23, 2011

Extends number of possible monitors

The UDA2000 is a new USB 2 to HDMI display adapter from Cirago International that allows both Mac and Windows users to easily connect to HDMI monitors, projectors or HDTVs without having to add internal video cards, external breakout expanders or separate audio and video connections in order to increase the number of monitors they can work with. PCs can add up to six 1080p-compatible monitors, while Mac users can add up to four, each using a USB port and adapter.

The adapter also comes with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter, making it possible to connect to devices that don't support HDMI, and supports both "mirror" and "extended" modes, as well as multi-screen and screen rotation thanks to automatically monitor recognition. The UDA2000 is powered by the USB port and claims to offer no latency or quality loss at up to 1920x1080 and 32-bit color, which also includes digital audio (for devices such as monitors and HDTVs that support audio over HDMI).

The UDA2000 is available now from Cirago's website and sells for $60. It includes a one-year warranty, requires either an Intel Mac running OS X 10.4.11 (or higher) or Windows 2000 (or higher), and the company is now offering a beta driver that adds Mac OS X Lion support for the unit.
