Advent Vega tablet gets unofficial Android 3.2 upgrade

Upgrades driven by loyal user community

The Advent Vega has received an unofficial update to Android 3.2. The improved version of Honeycomb is being offered by the tablet's dedicated user community TabletRoms. The major improvement on the tablet over earlier hacked installs is full native graphics acceleration.

The Vega was one of the first 10-inch tablets based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core ARM Cortex-processor. Its major attraction is its relatively low price fors its primarily European-focused audience, at 199 ($330 USD) in the UK. When launched in November, it quickly sold out within hours.

Advent ships the tablet with Android 2.2. However, the user community has continuously created and provided OS upgrade hacks. This is the second Honeycomb update. In May, the community put out a hack for Android 3.0.

Advent is a captive vendor of UK-based Dixon's Retail. It sells the Vega primarily through its Curry's and PC World stores. [via Engadget]
