Microsoft says Mango waiting only on hardware

Microsoft's Nordic mobile leader Peter Wissinger revealed that phone makers now had Windows Phone 7's Mango update was now contingent only on others. While the firm had already said it was finished early, Wissinger said that it was now only "up to our manufacturing partners" to actually ship their devices. He wouldn't say when that was.

The first device confirmed to be shipping is the Toshiba-Fujitsu IS12T, which hits Japan in September. Virtually all devices will ship that month with the exception of Nokia's hardware. HTC, LG, and Samsung are all due to make their return, with Acer and ZTE joining the newcomers.

Dell hasn't abandoned WP7 but is considered a no-show in the first round of Mango devices.

So far, Microsoft has tried to shoot down talk of a September 1 launch, although little exists to stop that from happening. Hardware firms may need weeks to refine new models, but existing phones could get Mango comparatively quickly.
