Microsoft releases social location app for WP7
Microsoft has released a new social location app from Bing for Windows Phone. The We're In app is designed to help users organize social gatherings more easily by also integrating Bing maps within the app. The app works by a user inviting their friends to a meeting place, and when they accept, the user's location is revealed as are the friend's who have accepted the invitation.
As each friend joins the event, his or her locations appear on the map. The map can then be panned, pinched or stretched to see where an individual is or where all the others are located. Everyone that joins the event can then also see where everyone else is. User's can update their status with messages including whether they are on their way, or going to be late, for example.
Microsoft has addressed privacy concerns by allowing users to tap 'leave' if they don't want their location displayed. Additionally, when the invite expires all location information sharing also ceases.
While the app is currently Windows Phone-only, Microsoft has plans to launch the app for other platforms.
