White HP TouchPad on sale in US as Best Buy plans fire sale

HP exits TouchPad with white model, price drops

HP gave the end to webOS hardware some compensation Friday by listing the white TouchPad in the US. Previously only available in France, it carries both the new color as well as a faster 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor and 64GB of storage. HP is selling it for $600 and makes it one of the least expensive tablets that capacity, with Apple charging $699 for the same amount.

Best Buy has nonetheless hinted that the tablet will be available for lower prices again in the near future. Staff at a store in Emeryville, California have said that discounts would come beyond the $100 price drop from just a few days before the hardware platform shut down. The workers' accuracy is difficult to tell. Store staff are sometimes prone to making claims that contradict what their management says.

Officially, HP won't pull out completely from webOS hardware until fall. The advance warning could see it forced to slash prices with customers reluctant to buy what they know will be an unsupported platform comparatively soon.
