Cases to put the iPad anywhere you want it

Longtime Mac accessory maker Newer Technology and relative newcomer MountMe are both offering cases designed for the iPad that do more than just protect the tablet -- they allow hands-free or one-hand use of the iPad by providing kickstands, mounting options, bases and grips that provide the freedom to put or position the device wherever it's most convenient to the user, from car seat backs to walls to desks to hands.

MountMe offers the Freedom (for the original iPad) and Freedom II (for the iPad 2), a case-mount hybrid that comes in three colors (black, silver and red). Both come with heavy-duty mounting straps for securing the iPad to a car headrest, leg or car visor, as well as four suction cups for mounting onto hard surfaces (refrigerators, glass, mirrors or plane seats as examples. The case can also be permanently wall mounted using included screws, and both feature a quick-release on/off bracket to remove the iPad if needed.

The cases also feature a built-in kickstand that pans 360 degrees or tilts up to 90 degrees for an unlimited number of angles for viewing, typing, landscape and portrait positions. The company also offers a security permanent mounting option to lock the iPad into the case for both the Freedom and Freedom II. Either model sells for $50, and those who pre-ordered the Freedom II should be receiving theirs now.

Newer Technology have announced the GripStand 2/GripBase bundle consisting of two of their previous products for the iPad now combined together. The GripStand 2 and GripBase Bundle includes a protective hard-shell case with a shock-absorbing inner rubber liner, a removable stand that attaches to the case that can be swiveled 360 degrees and positioned at almost any angle, a one-handed grip handle (also removable) that allows users to carry and use the iPad one-handed or transport it like a briefcase -- which also doubles as a handle from which the iPad can be hung on a hook -- and the GripBase, a skid-resistant weighted base that turns the iPad into a desktop workstation. The kit also includes a nylon mounting strap for use with car headrests, etc.

The company says the versatility of the combined bundle makes it perfect for use in schools and businesses, where a user might need to carry it from room to room, using the handle to use the iPad with one hand or to hang it for presentations or pop it into a workstation for use with a bluetooth keyboard.

The NuGuard GripStand 2/GripBase Bundle for iPad 2 is now available for $40 exclusively from Other World Computing.
