Logitech Tablet Speaker clips onto iPads, other tablets

Launch set for September

Logitech has unveiled the Tablet Speaker for iPad, its latest audio accessory. Despite its name, the gear is designed to attach to any tablet thin enough to support it. A rubberized clip latches on to one edge of a tablet, while a 3.5mm cable bridges with the tablet's headphone jack.

An internal battery supplies about eight hours of power and recharges via USB. The shape of the speaker allows it to double as a stand, whether for typing or video. A bundled case protects the hardware when traveling.

Logitech is selling the Tablet Speaker for $50. No performance specifications have been released though, and the device is currently only available as a pre-order. It should ship in September.

    Too bad it connects via the headphone jack and not the dock.

    Not being a snob, there is a real discernable difference between speakers that use the dock connector vs. the headphone jack...
