Google Maps for Android adds transit on tablets

Google pushed out an update to Google Maps on Android (Android Market) that catered primarily to tablet owners. Users with an Android 3 tablet can now get the same Transit Navigation as their smartphone-owning counterparts. Everyone in a Transit Navigation area also has the option of ringtone or spoken notifications to let them know when they're near a stop in a more direct form than vibrate mode.

An experimental feature adds Bubble Buttons, or a way to add buttons to call or navigate to a point directly from a map result.

Google Maps on a basic level needs Android 1.6 and up, although the tablet versions need at least 3.0 while many others need 2.2 or later. Transit Navigation is currently limited to about 400 cities but should be expanding.
