CyanogenMod lead developer hired by Samsung
The CyanogenMod lead developer has just been hired by Samsung Mobile, Gadget University reported, citing his updated Facebook status as evidence. Steve in the comments on the Facebook thread said his new position has nothing to do with CyanogenMod, however. The aftermarket firmware has exceeded 500,000 downloads and gives more than 50 Android devices extra control beyond what Google allows.
This could mark the start of a new trend, as it follows Apple's recent hire of iPhone jailbreak notification developer Peter Hajas. It may be an indication that companies are turning to the talents of unofficial, gray-area programmers and app makers by hiring them.
Both companies are also in a race to claim the lead in smartphones and are likely looking at alternative sources than traditional, established developers for new ideas.
