Samsung Galaxy Tab TouchWiz frozen over bug

Samsung's near-mandatory TouchWiz update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 hit a roadblock Monday after it stopped rolling out the interface to users. The company told owners that it had stopped the updates to "ensure it's a positive experience." Spokeswoman Carla didn't have a time for when the updates would resume other than "soon" and also wasn't given details.

The cause may be a graphics corruption issue reported by those who were part of the first patch. In some cases, it has rendered the tablet effectively unworkable. Attempts to reboot or restore the tablet don't work.

The flaw ironically affects those who were the most eager to follow Samsung's plans to customize the stock interface under claims of improving the experience. The TouchWiz update is considered necessary by Samsung to upgrade to Android 3.2, but those who opted instead to stay on stock Android 3.1 are unaffected. Some owners have criticized Samsung for pushing them to get an experience they didn't want, although the TouchWiz update for tablets can mostly be disabled after it's installed, unlike on smartphones.
