Nokia to tackle China mobile market with WP7

Nokia is planning on entering the large Chinese mobile phone market with its forthcoming Windows Phone 7 devices. A Nokia executive speaking in Beijing, Colin Giles, said that it plans on launching its new handsets on China Mobile's 3G network using the TD-SCDMA standard. Giles did not offer a launch timeframe, but indicated that China would continue to figure strongly in Nokia's plans moving forward.

Nokia's Windows Phone 7 plans for China are designed to try keep its number one position in China, which it still currently retains despite the rapid inroads that the iPhone and Android devices have been making into its local market share. Its second quarter shipments for China dropped an alarming 11.3 million sales, or a 53 percent decline from the previous three months.

Nokia's plans to start selling its future high-end smartphones through China Mobile are designed to take advantage of its large user base. Its strategy is designed to steal back sales from Apple and other big players in the Chinese market including Samsung and Motorola, which it wasn't able to counter with its Symbian devices.
