BlackBerry Curve 9380 seen live, confirms touchscreen

updated 10:25 am EDT, Fri August 12, 2011

RIM BlackBerry Curve 9380 confirmed

RIM's touchscreen BlackBerry Curve has been spotted live for the first time. The design, now called the Curve 9380, is a softer, more rounded cousin to the Torch 9860. CrackBerry forum poster imanysh's sighting supports the rumors of the design using a smaller 3.25-inch, 360x480 screen and BlackBerry 7.

The absence of commentary leaves many of the details unknown. It does confirm a camera with a flash. Earlier tips have it using a slower 800MHz processor, though it's still likely to be faster than any BlackBerry 6 device, and dropping 720p video while preserving the five-megapixel sensor.

The version on show has been given the Orlando codename, which has sometimes been associated with the QWERTY Curve. Most currently give that device the Apollo name and suggest the Orlando was the touch model all along. Its codename represents the GSM version and should have a CDMA equivalent, the Malibu.

With three new, core BlackBerry phones shipping just this month alone, it's doubtful the Curve 9380 will ship before the fall and may wait until early 2012.
