Sprint releases fixed Gingerbread update for Kyocera Echo

updated 09:05 pm EDT, Wed August 10, 2011

First update caused problems for users

Sprint has begun to release a second round ofGingerbread updates for Kyocera's Echo handset, after the first update, which arrived several weeks ago, had caused problems for many users. The company suspended the first rollout after a number of owners reported that the download had caused their phone to become inoperable.

The fixed update provides the same upgraded functionality as the initial release, enabling users to take advantage of Android 2.3 and an Eco Mode utility for power optimization. The release is claimed to improve overall performance, while also bringing the updated Swype 3.0 keyboard.

The Gingerbread update will arrive automatically as an over-the-air download.
