Cablevision launches iPhone, iPod touch app
Cablevision has now extended the availability of its Optimum iPad app to the iPod touch and iPhone. The app (free, App Store) lets Cablevision cable subscribers watch live TV and video-on-demand titles on their portable iOS devices as well as act as a remote control for compatible Cablevision set-top boxes. Just like with the iPad app, however, users can't access content from outside of their home.
Users can also schedule DVR recordings and Favorites automatically appear in all connected devices with the Optimum App, as do parental control settings.
The app has drawn heat from content providers who don't want to share their product on mobile devices without explicit permission. Cablevision was sued by Viacom in June, which owns MTV and Comedy Central, over the iPad streaming.

Mobile TV is GREAT!
This must be such a relief for those subscribers eager to have their mobile devices work as their TV’s. I went with the DISH Remote Access app since I’m subscribed to DISH Network and I work in one of their call centers. I use it all the time whenever I’m out of the house and I know something good is going to be on TV. As long as there’s Wi-Fi or mobile 3G network I’m set to watch TV as it airs LIVE or my DVR recordings on my iPhone and iPad2, and this has got to be something I’m sure optimum users are looking forward to also having. DISH Network even has an offer where new and existing subscribers can get a free Sling Adapter http://bit.ly/kbum9m
