New Yorker intros free NYC entertainment guide for iOS

updated 02:40 pm EDT, Mon August 8, 2011

Rare free content from Conde Nast

The New Yorker and publisher Condé Nast have released a new iPhone app, Goings On. Unlike the magazine's flagship iPad app, Goings On is completely free, primarily serving as a source of arts and entertainment listings for New York City. Users can sort events by category, date and location, and check New Yorker restaurant reviews as well as maps and venues' overall schedules.

Adding some depth to the app are sections like My New York, in which writers highlight some of their favorite places. The Audio Tours tab includes narrated guides with particular themes, such as Chinatown restaurants or High Line architecture. On the Horizon provides early details on future events, and My Favorites displays saved listings and recommendations. Content in the app can be shared via Facebook, Twitter or Foursquare.

Goings On is compatible with any handheld running iOS 4 or better. While free, it is supported by advertising.
