Android Chainfire beta app controls Canon DSLRs

Chainfire has released a new DSLR Controller beta app ($8.50 Android Market) for controlling Canon's DSLR range of cameras through an Android tablet device, with the only phone supported thus far is the Samsung Galaxy S2 with firmware 2.3.4 or newer. The Beta version connects over USB and requires that the Android device has USB host support. It allows touch focus adjustment, Live View, zoom, a histogram, bulb capture, and control over most other settings.

The developer is still working on functions such as time lapse, video recording and image playback. Supported tablets include the Motorola Xoom, Acer Iconia A500, ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer, and the Toshiba Thrive.

Supported cameras include the Canon Rebel T3i, Rebel T2i, 60D, 50D, 7D, 5D Mark II and 1D Mark IV. Issues in the build still involve freeze-ups during some operations.

A finished version 1.0 will be free for those who have the beta. Those who don't will pay more than $8.50, though exactly how much more isn't known. [via DPReview]
