Apple posts iOS 5 beta 5, new Apple TV and iTunes betas

updated 03:05 pm EDT, Sat August 6, 2011

Fifth iOS beta arrives on time

On track with its two-week schedule, Apple on Saturday posted iOS 5 beta 5 as well as a matching iTunes 10.5 beta 5 and Apple TV beta 4. The new release shows Apple focusing on a polished product and fixing several bugs as well as simplifying the experience for developers. The new beta now lets developers switch on iCloud storage with a simple flag instead of having to manually address each container.

Other fixes tackle virtually every aspect of the release, including more iCloud features, media, the camera, UI automation, and integration with Xcode.

Despite the later beta, the release still has some outstanding bugs. A few new bugs have been introduced as well, although the reduced number of remaining issues suggests Apple is focusing on polish for the release over simply adding or refining features.

Beta 5 needs iTunes beta 5 to sync locally, and developers are told to upgrade the software before plugging in. Device owners should have the option of updating the hardware alone over the air.

    Fun bug...

If you take a picture, it won't add it to the photo/ camera roll. However, if you go into the camera app then go into the cameral roll from there, it shows the picture. Also, Photostream doesn't work now. There are a bunch more but those are the ones that I saw that bothered me.
