Final Fantasy Tactics arrives for iPhone [U]

updated 02:10 am EDT, Thu August 4, 2011

HD version for iPad expected in September

[Updated: now available, new video below] SquareEnix has released Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions to the iPhone, now available on the App Store, along with a new English-language gameplay trailer. The version for the iPhone features upgraded, Retina-quality graphics and speed, an autosaving feature and English voices (in the North American version), but lacks multiplayer, Game Center support or add-on options at present.

The game is based on the original Final Fantasy Tactics game, which was originally released on the Sony Playstation in 1997 and then re-made and released for the Playstation Portable in 2007. A separate iPad HD app will be released in September. The game is supported for the iPhone 3GS and later as well as the fourth-generation iPod Touch, but does not work with the iPhone 3G.

The game will retail for $16 on the App Store, approximately $5 more than the PSP version.

    Good, but...

I'm in favor of Square bringing any and all of their old games to Apple's platforms, but I'd really much rather than Final Fantasy Tactics Advance than Final Fantasy Tactics.

(I wonder if they fixed the menu bug which let you cheat...)
