Samsung delays Galaxy Tab 10.1 Australia intro due to Apple

updated 12:05 pm EDT, Wed August 3, 2011

Samsung stalls Tab 10.1 event indefinitely

Samsung is delaying the formal introduction of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia despite the company's promises of a timely launch. The company in an official statement said it had scrapped an August 11 media event for the Android tablet "in light of the current legal proceedings by Apple." While cast as "postponed," it gave no date to Gizmodo or others.

"Samsung will announce a new date for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 media launch event as soon as practicable," the company said.

The statement is odd as Samsung had just the day before said that the Tab 10.1 in Australia was different than the one under dispute and wouldn't be affected. Samsung's new remarks hint either that it was incorrect or that Apple had taken new issue with the Australian-oriented tablet as well.

Samsung had voluntarily reached a deal with Apple in Australia not to sell the Galaxy Tab in the country during their technology disputes rather than risk a legally enforced ban. Apple has been pushing for a court-imposed preliminary ban in the US and has left Samsung with the risk of losing a key market if the ban goes ahead.

    Welcome to the real world

Google doesn't seem to care much about all that grown-up stuff like patent law, record label deals, user interface design, and pad computing and all that. TLDR.

And what happens when you just blindly dump pre-beta quality products onto the market? Without bothering to do your due diligence? Google is just beginning to feel that pain.
