TerraRay 3D renderer reaches version 4, adds generators

updated 10:15 pm EDT, Wed August 3, 2011

New version now on sale for a limited time

AvisNocturna Software has updated their 3D renderer, TerraRay, to version 4.0 -- bringing with it a new fractal-based terrain generator, automatic terrain texture generation, faster scene previews, an improved "undo" function, improved rendering and text quality and numerous small improvements and bug fixes. The program, which is sold exclusively through the Mac App Store, is temporarily on sale to celebrate the new version.

The program is positioned as an inexpensive, easy-to-use landscape generator based on simple elevation maps, featuring realistic lighting and flexible, natural materials. Users can also import models made in the commonly-used 3ds format, or work with the built-in library of natural elements. TerraRay features volumetric clouds and fog as well as photo-realistic water. The new Fractal Terrain Generator comes with a number of presets, and the automatic terrain texture generator can populate elevation maps without user intervention if desired.

To celebrate the new version, the software is on sale. Normally $15, users can purchase TerraRay v4 for $5 for a limited time.
