PlayStation Vita reaches FCC

updated 02:00 pm EDT, Wed August 3, 2011

Handheld console nearing launch

Sony's PlayStation Vita has finally landed at the FCC for wireless testing and approval. Although the Commission's test documents do not shed light on any surprise features, the approval suggests the company is on track to fulfill its promise to launch the device in time for the holiday shopping season.

Recent rumors suggest the Vita may land in stores this fall. An alleged ad from Blockbuster UK points to an October 28 launch date, though the report has yet to be confirmed.

Sony so far has declined to publicly commit to a specific launch date. [via Engadget]
