Sony tablets to come in 16GB and 32GB flavors, S2 is 3G only

Sony S1 and S2 tablet details leak

Sony plans to follow an at once higher- and lower-end approach to launching its S1 and S2 tablets. A leak Monday had the core S1 slate coming in 16GB and 32GB versions, each in Wi-Fi only as well as editions with 3G added. The S2 clamshell would have the same capacity, but it would only come in the 3G-plus-Wi-Fi models, CNET gleaned from an insider.

The S1 should have battery life comparable to the similarly-sized iPad 2. S2 owners may see lower battery life owing to the dual screens and clamshell.

Corroborating rumors, the S1 and S2 are expected to show in early September, just ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin. Sony may have different names for the tablets when they ship, although they won't necessarily be very different.

The two tablets use Android 3 and will have custom interface to tap into Sony's existing services. Along with Qriocity music as well as movies, the tablets will serve as home theater remote control over infrared. At least S2 owners will get PlayStation Suite games and, in the US, will have AT&T 3G access options on launch.
