T-Mobile continues Gingerbread updates

T-Mobile has continued to bring a string of Gingerbread updates this week, as the carrier begins to roll out the software for the G2. A memo posted on the company's support site confirms that Android 2.3.3 will arrive for the G2 as an over-the-air update. The software arrives just one day after Gingerbread was released for the G2's successor, the G2x.

Aside from the standard Android 2.3 changes, the G2 update also promises a new color scheme for the notification bar; new battery indicator, phone and web icons; and a color-coded signal indicator, which turns green when connected to Google servers. Users can also press the power key while in a call to disable the proximity sensor.

The update also fixes several issues, including problems with Wi-Fi calling, SMS and e-mail notifications, and MMS messages sent from the gallery.

T-Mobile suggests the Gingerbread update will begin to arrive automatically over the coming weeks. The memo cautions users against calling the company before September 1, as representatives are said to be unable to expedite the rollout.
