Verizon releases Android 2.3 for Motorola Droid X2

updated 10:45 pm EDT, Tue July 26, 2011

New UI features added, bugs fixed

Verizon has begun rolling out Android 2.3 updates for Motorola's Droid X2 handset. The Gingerbread enhancements include a new Download Manager app, multi-touch keyboard shortcut options, improved copy-and-paste functionality, image geotagging, and a variety of new UI elements including widgets, icons and colors. The release also provides encryption options for the device and the SD card, along with VPN enhancements for business use.

Motorola has also made a number of hardware-specific tweaks, helping to reduce screen lockup, issues with duplicate SMS messages, data resets after MDN change, and unlocking problems. Other bug fixes focus on overall stability, battery percentage indication, screen transitions, and home tray icons.

The Android 2.3 update will arrive to most handsets automatically as an over-the-air download, however users can also initiate the process by manually checking for system updates from the phone's settings menu.
