Company taking home 14 new US patents in all

Apple has won the rights to 14 new patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office, reports say. These include four new design patents, most notably one for the MacBook Air, Apple's popular thin-profile notebook. The computer was only just updated with features such as a Thunderbolt port and a choice of Core i5 or i7 processor. Jonathan Ive, Apple's senior VP of industrial design, is among over a dozen people credited with the shape of the Air.

Similar credits are given for the design of the cover for the iPhone 3G, Apple's second-generation smartphone. This consists of the basic shell of the device, with holes for buttons, speakers and ports, also leaving room for the touchscreen and the internal hardware. Other design wins by Apple include the look of the remote for the second-generation Apple TV, and even the shape of the company's AA battery charger.

Some of Apple's non-design victories today include an anti-theft system, a graphical editor for program files, and automatically powering off a Bluetooth device via a connected one. Still more cover noise reduction, wireless communication between base and mobile stations, tracking workflow when manipulating media, and an H.264/AVC coder.

    Hello Acer. Apple legal calling.

I wonder if Acer's upcoming MacBook Air clone will violate any of Apple's newly won MacBook Air patents...

And the next winner in "Who's going to get sued by Apple for IP infringement?" is (drum roll) ... ASUS with their lovely new notebook/notepad. Congratulations to all the winners and may your bank accounts be solid!
