Zero1.tv debuts VooMote One iPhone remote case

updated 08:00 pm EDT, Mon July 25, 2011

Easy-on, easy-off universal remote

Zero1.tv has introduced the VooMote One, a snap-on casing available for the iPhone 4, iPod Touch or iPhone 3GS into an infrared universal smart remote control, able to control thousands of different brands and models of infrared-based products. Using an app from the App Store (free), the iPhone or iPod Touch can offer customizable controls and the ability to "chain" commands together to a single button function.

The VooMote One is similar in functionality to the SURC case now available, in terms of using a slim casing to add an infrared signaller to the top of the iPhone or iPod Touch, but offers its own differences -- including being designed to easily be taken on an off, with the case left at home rather than doubling as a full-time protective covering.

The VooMote offers a "One View" main menu where users can set up "rooms" of the house where the consumer electronics devices are located and show only controls for the devices in that room. Like the SURC, it can "learn" from previously-set-up remote controls about new devices, or draw from its database of more than 30,000 infrared codes.

The VooMote One will be available beginning August 5th at Best Buy and the company's website. The app requires iOS 4.0 or later, while the hardware will cost $99.
