New Droid Bionic spoiled by Amazon desktop, car dock leaks

updated 10:30 am EDT, Fri July 22, 2011

Accessory listings provide new images of phone

New images of Motorola's remade Droid Bionic have shown up courtesy of Amazon. The online retailer has posted product pages for two Droid Bionic accessories: a desktop dock, and a car navigation dock with charger. Amazon is not actually selling these add-ons yet, but does invite those interested to sign up for e-mail notifications.

The hardware is different than that originally shown at CES in
January. While the screen will still be a 540x960 4.3-inch pentile touchscreen, the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor has been replaced by a 1GHz TI OMAP dual-core processor. There is also a chrome bezel around the front for a more iPhone-like look.

The smartphone, to be sold by Verizon, was originally scheduled to hit retailers' shelves this spring. However, Motorola pushed back the introduction until this summer. Although Motorola claimed the delay was due to market "feedback," it is widely believed that the postponement was due to technical problems with implementing its LTE-based 4G capability in tandem with the Tegra 2 chip.

When the phone was sent to the FCC earlier this month, the submission came with a timetable that indicated the product could be launching on or shortly before August 7. Pricing is expected to be $300 on a contract. [via Droid-Life]
