Panasonic intros new F-series and LS5 cameras

Panasonic has introduced two new cameras the Lumix FZ47 and LS5. The FZ47 is the latest addition to Panasonic's FZ-series super-zoom line and brings 24x optical zoom (25mm ultra-wide angle) and the ability to shoot video in 1080i. It is powered by a 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor and can take high-resolution consecutive shots at 3.7 fps in 12.1-megapixel full-resolution and maximum 10 fps at 3-megapixel recording.

Differentiating itself from most digital cameras that record video, the FZ47 includes a Creative Video mode on board, which lets the user set the shutter speed and aperture manually. Changing the shutter speed brings special effects to videos, which can be effective when shooting a fast-moving subject. The ability to control the aperture is convenient when there are several subjects at different distances and the user wants each of them stand out

At the other end of the scale, Panasonic's new LS5 caters for discerning casual users looking for better low-light performance in a compact point-and-shoot type. The 14.1-megapixel camera incorporates a high-quality 26mm wide-angle, 5x optical zoom lens. It can shoot video in 720p at 30fps and runs on easy to replace AA batteries. The LS5 also incorporates image stabilization and face detection functions.

The Panasonic Lumix FZ47 will launch in August for $400. The Panasonic Lumix LS5 will launch in November with its price to be announced.
