Inexpensive portable uses Linux variant

Samsung has unveiled a new portable netbook for the Indian market, NotebookItalia found. The 10.1-inch N100 weighs just under 2.3lbs and has a white DuraCase finish that is resistant to scratches and marks. Its 250GB hard drive is preloaded with the Linux-based MeeGo OS, an open-source project originally fostered by Intel and Nokia -- though other companies have since added to its development.

The LED screen sports 1024x600 matte resolution, and processing power comes from a 1.33GHz N435 Atom helped out with 1GB of RAM. Intel's integrated GMA 3150 handles graphics. Odds and ends include a built-in multi-card reader, four USB ports, a VGA output and Ethernet port. A three-cell battery is standard.

The netbook will cost 12,290 rupees, or the equivalent of about $280.
