Nikon Pro series tops JD Power ranks

DSLR buyers are reportedly mostly satisfied with cameras' image quality, though some users are left desiring improvements to shutter speed and durability, according to the JD Power and Associates 2011 DSLR survey. The report measures five groups of factors: picture quality; durability and reliability, including battery life; features, such as zoom and image stabilization; ease of operation; and shutter speed/lag time.

Owners of DSLR cameras purchased online generally reported satisfaction with the devices, with ratings averaging 887 on a 1,000-point scale. Top scoring cameras included Nikon's Pro-series, which achieved 914 points, followed by Canon's Mark-series, which scored 909.

Canon's D-series and Nikon's D-series models both scored 889 points, while Pentax's K-series and Canon's Rebels scored below the industry average with scores of 883 and 881, respectively. Sony's A-series held the bottom of the list with 867 points.

The latest survey was based on PowerReviews from 4,500 verified buyers from October 2010 through April 2011.
