AT&T CEO calls DSL broadband "obsolete"

updated 12:45 am EDT, Wed July 20, 2011

Company points to U-verse as superior tech

Speaking at the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners gathering in Los Angeles, AT&T chief executive Randall Stephenson reportedly labeled his company's DSL broadband technology "obsolete." In a follow-up statement, the company suggests Stephenson's comments should not be taken as an indicator that AT&T does not "remain fully committed to the technology--even as we constantly look to bring innovation to the marketplace."

"Stephenson was answering a question from an audience member about how state regulators should think about new technology cycles when they are considering things like USF," the statement reads. "He said that new technology used to be amortized over a 10-15 year period, but that has shrunk to about 5 years now."

The executive was said to be pointing out a comparison between DSL and technology such as U-verse, which is newer and faster. Other examples include the 3G deployment in 2006, just five years before 4G became the new focus. [via GigaOM]

    obsolete, huh!?

Then sign it over to the state to be used for a co-op/wire line sharing for other companies to sell and release your customers from your bullshit datacaps and obviously retarded PR department. What a f****** tool.
