Samsung distances itself from Anymode Smart Case

Samsung puts Anymode Smart Case at armsí length

Samsung has taken the unusual step of issuing a statement in response to the launch of a third-party iPad Smart Cover rip-off made specifically for its Galaxy Tab 10.1. Samsung has denied any involvement with Anymode stating that the company used its branding without its permission, and in the process trying to ensure that it distances itself from the blatant imitation of what is a patented Apple design.

Samsung's official statement reads:

"As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the "Designed for Samsung Mobile" mark.

"In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation. We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold."

Samsung is currently in the midst of a serious ITC patent infringement dispute with Apple, which has accused the Korean company of copying its product designs and its packaging. The development of a product that so obviously imitates the iPad 2's trademark accessory is not timely.

Further, with Apple's recent patent win against HTC at the ITC which is said to have wide ranging ramifications for Android-based devices, Samsung will be on high alert to ensure that it does not draw unwarranted attention to devices or products carrying its branding that could be used as evidence in any case against it.

Doesn't get any more blatantly obvious than that.

Amazing how so many become ethical after getting caught.

They even call it a Smart Case (Apple's is called a Smart Cover).
