Apple scheduling employee briefings for Wed. Lion launch?

updated 11:15 pm EDT, Mon July 18, 2011

Staff said to be ready for new OS

Apple has reportedly scheduled overnight briefings on Tuesday night for its retail employees. The staff are expected to use the time to prepare for the Mac OS X Lion launch, which is said to be set for Wednesday, unnamed sources have told MacRumors. The company is also claimed to have sent each store a Mac Pros preloaded with the upcoming OS.

Separate reports suggest retail outlets have already received hard drives that staff can use to load Lion onto the showroom Macs, while display materials are ready to be installed throughout the buildings ahead of launch day.

Although the Lion launch this week seems increasingly likely, it remains unclear if rumors surrounding a new MacBook Air or Mac mini will turn out to be accurate. Both devices were said to be set to launch alongside the new OS.

    Not Friday

It used to be Friday... when we had optical media and you could buy the OS in retails stores, so you had to take that into account (prepare for the weekend rush etc.). Now, with Lion available only on the App Store, they can pick any day of the week.

    ???

Just because this is the Internet, does that mean it's OK to throw out rules for writing the English language properly?

    "The staff are expected..."

    "Staff" is singular.

    According to my sources

This one is true. They did get a container of banners marked do not open until 10pm tonight. they did get a drive delivery. and yes stores are getting their overall servers updated for all systems and the whole Lion thing could be hiding in there.

And yes they are doing an overnight.

What they haven't seen is the typical dummy skus that show new product arriving in the next day to couple of days so it would seem that either no new computers are being released or they will be posted on the site in the morning as 'shipping today' and due later in the week to next week.

    Except

Since there's no disk to buy at the store, there's no reason at all for any Mac user to head out to their local Apple store to 'check out Lion'. Well, the 'fanboys' will be there, just because it's what makes them special. But besides that...
