Motorola Xoom on Verizon gets Android 3.2 in 'coming weeks'

Motorola Xoom to get Honeycomb update soon

The Motorola Xoom on Verizon will be getting Android 3.2 in "the coming weeks" according to an official company tweet. Owners of the Wi-Fi-only model have already been receiving phased rollouts of the OS upgrade recently. However, with the added complication of the 3G CDMA radio, the 3.2 (Honeycomb) update is still likely undergoing testing before a wider release.

The 3.2 update will bring with it a new viewing mode called "zoom to fill." Zoom to fill works by increasing the size of phone apps to work more like native tablet titles on the larger 10-1-inch display of the tablet. The update will also, and importantly, finally activate the microSD card slot that has remained non-functioning since the Xoom's release.

In addition to other performance and stability upgrades, the 3.2 upgrade will benefit fans of smaller 7-inch tablets. Up until now, 7-inch Android tablets have generally been running the phone optimized version of the Android OS. For the first time, users of 7-inch devices will have an OS that is optimized for the screen size.
