Pegatron now seen out of new iPad loop, pushing for 2012

Pegatron squeezed by Foxconn on iPad orders

Pegatron's would-be iPad 3 production has supposedly been squeezed out by Foxconn. Industry rumors backed Apple's original call for a second manufacturer for the iPad 3, but Foxconn has supposedly protected its supply and "persuaded" Apple to avoid extra suppliers, Digitimes said. Pegatron's iPhone 5 production was still on tap but now had a range of "at least" 10 million units.

The manufacturer is supposedly looking to 2012 for extra business from Apple, both for future iPads as well as for Macs. Although Pegatron has primarily been a handheld device maker for Apple, it's best known as ASUS' former manufacturing wing and has experience making notebooks.

Such rumors are still in question since they have typically revolved around the assumption that Apple will have a surprise replacement or complimentary iPad model this fall. Some have made claims of a pro iPad. Apple hasn't established enough of a track record to be certain but has so far kept an iPhone-like yearly upgrade schedule for the iPad that would rule out anything new until early 2012.

Among the concerns are that a variant on an existing iPad wouldn't have power to drive the rumored 2048x1536 display without switching to a new processor and graphics.
