Cowon D3 gets long-awaited upgrade to Android 2.3

updated 10:00 pm EDT, Wed July 13, 2011

New features include sleep timer, search, VOIP

Cowon is now offering owners of the D3 Plenue multimedia player the option of upgrading it to Android 2.3, up from the Android 2.1 OS it began shipping with. Other than improving system stability, the free upgrade brings with it new features, including a music sleep timer, plug-in code support, a search widget and VoIP. The performance is also said to be faster and more responsive.

The player sports a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 800x480 resolution. It can play back 1080p video thanks to an HDMI output and gets Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 2.1. Available capacities include 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, expandable thanks to a microSD slot. An FM radio, Cowon e-book reader and Twitter apps are integrated as well. Certain bug fixes are also part of the new OS. [via AnythingButiPod]
